Exceptional Amount Raised By Sixth Form Students
Posted On: 05/03/15
Students at Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport have recently had a hugely successful Sixth Form Charities Week. The students managed to raise £3,350.00 beating the previous years total by over £1,000! The money raised will be divided between The Small Things, Make a Wish Foundation and Cancer Research UK. The Small Things is an orphanage in Tanzania and Newport have been supporting the charity for the past three years. Make a Wish and Cancer Research are the two whole-school charities which the students have chosen to support this year.
The week was full of events which were organised and run by the Sixth Form, such as "I'm a Celeb", where Sixth Formers had to complete challenging trials to be crowned the King/Queen of the Jungle. We also had a "Teacher Talent" show, where teachers were scrutinised by a tough panel of judges. "Man V Food" was the final event of the week where Sixth Formers had to eat as much as they could to take the final title! All of the events were extremely successful and helped to raise our fantastic total. As well as the lunch time events there were also fancy dress themes for each day where the Sixth Form had the opportunity to dress up. Our themes this year were Pyjama Day, Film and TV, 80's, Around the World and Back to School.
As well as raising money Years 12 and 13 felt that it was very important to help a charity in the community. Staff and students throughout the school were asked to donate food which was then donated to the Saffron Walden Food Bank.
"The whole week was a huge success and as a Sixth Form we are very proud to have raised such a phenomenal amount of money and food for four great charities. I am very proud of the team effort behind this fantastic event, it created a real buzz around the school, which is lovely to see" - Miss Burt, Director of Sixth Form
The Sixth Form would like to say a huge thank you to all the local businesses that helped to support the Charities Week with their generous donations. We would also like to thank staff and students who contributed to our total and came to support the shows. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
