Nepal Earthquake Appeal
Posted On: 30/04/15
On Saturday 25 April a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. It severely shook the lives of at least 5.3m people and left many homeless. Nepal’s major cities, including the capital Kathmandu, have been badly damaged and rural areas near the epicentre have been completely cut off by avalanches.
Already over 3000 people have been confirmed dead and the figure is likely to rise significantly in the coming days. Even those whose homes are still standing are sleeping in the streets because they are terrified by regular aftershocks.
At Joyce Frankland Academy we have been running several charity events to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Nepal. As well as running a non uniform day, cake sale and collection buckets we are also collecting and holding donated blankets and clothing on the school site to be sent over to Nepal.
We would like to put forward a huge thank you to the people who have so far donated a total of over 50 black bags of items. If you would like to donate any items of clothing or blankets to be delivered to Nepal please bring them to the academy reception, they will then be stored and sent off to Nepal throughout the coming weeks.
Our hearts go out to the Nepalese victims.
