Delight at excellent A Level Results!

Posted On: 16/08/18

Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport are delighted with the strongest set of A-level and BTEC results we have had for many years. We are particularly pleased that the average grade performance indicator, along with the percentage of students achieving the top grades, continues to rise whilst we have maintained an inclusive academic community where our students flourish. As ever the most important aspect of exam results are the individual success stories which the Academy is extremely proud to celebrate. Another impressive achievement which the Academy would like to highlight from these results are the students who have risen to the challenge of not performing as they would have liked to begin with but worked diligently to achieve, in many cases, far beyond expectations.

We have continued to build on our outstanding vocational performance across the Sixth Form. With all our students achieving either distinctions or distinction*. This has enabled all students who took one of these qualifications to move ahead with their first choice plan for next year. The vast majority of whom will be continuing their academic journey at university.

There were also a number of exceptional performers who enrolled onto our A-level route and took some of the most academically challenging subjects with superb results. Luke Hooper is taking a year to consider his options having achieved, an exceptional A* in Maths and A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Luke said, “I am delighted with these results and would like to thank all of the teachers at JFAN for everything they have done to make this possible over the years”. Additionally, Eleanor Outhwaite, our Deputy Head Girl, achieved an impressive A in English Language and Italian and a B in Spanish, continuing our strong languages tradition of which continues to buck the national trend. Another student with results which particularly deserve special mention is Max Dunne who achieved an A in Physics and B grades in Maths and Biology.

Gordon Farquhar, Principal said, “I would like to congratulate every student for their hard work and excellent results they have achieved over their time with us. These results are also a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our staff. We wish the students every success in the exciting and varied futures which they now go on to and are certain they will continue to flourish. Our Sixth Form students are a credit to our Academy and have been instrumental in some of the improvements which have continued to see the school, and its results, go from strength to strength in recent times. We look forward to welcoming them back in the future and continuing our connection through the Old Newportonian’s Society”.
