At Joyce Frankland Academy, we are committed to the training of future teachers and supporting the future leaders of our education system. We aim for all trainees to receive a valuable experience within our school, learning from fantastic teachers; and with the support of dedicated mentors, offer a personalized and purposeful programme, complimenting the chosen route of the trainee. We collaborate with various institutions to support both university led and school based routes and take in trainees across many different subject areas. In many cases, training bursaries and various study programmes are available. Further information is available on the DfE website. We have an excellent record of retaining promising trainees who often find themselves with positions of responsibility or on a leadership pathway, early in their careers.

School Centred Training

The Cambridge Teaching Schools Network programme takes place in school settings throughout Cambridgeshire with seminar days hosted by various schools within the programme. A range of teacher training routes are available, including salaried full-time, salaried flexible (subject restrictions apply), salaried with PGCE and non-salaried courses to provide a personalized experience for all trainees. For further information and testimonials please see the CTSN website.

The West Essex School Direct Programme is an Initial Teacher Training Programme delivered in school through a blended learning approach of in school training and online learning. TES Institute provides the online course and the Lead School and its partner schools provide in-school training and teaching practice supported by a mentor. TES Institute provides a Pathway Tutor who will support the trainee and school throughout the Programme. The Programme leads to QTS and, if selected, PGCE and there are several study routes available including a part-time programme for high quality shortage subject graduates. The Lead school is The Davenant Foundation School and further information is available here.

University Based Training

We are delighted to work with the University of Cambridge, currently ranked as the number 1 teacher training provider in England and accept several PGCE students across both PP1 and PP2 placements. We support each trainee with a highly skilled mentor and a professional studies programme facilitated by the professional tutor. The course consists of a combination of subject studies, professional studies, and professional placements, with a research based, academic and pedagogical focus to prepare graduates with the skills prepared to teach the 11-19 age range.

School experience days can offer potential trainees the opportunity to see if teaching is right for them and see, first-hand, the day in the life of the teacher. At Joyce Frankland Academy, we welcome inquiries from anyone, whether they be a fresh graduate, a person wanting to return to the workforce or those currently working in an alternative career who would like to experience our Academy for the day or talk to us about potential training routes and opportunities. If you would like to take this opportunity please contact Professional Tutor, Katie Ellard (Katie.ellard@jfan.org.uk) in the first instance.
